Requirements
- •5+ years of backend engineering experience (8+ for Staff), with a track record of shipping and operating production systems at scale
- •Strong backend experience with a statically compiled language (e.g. Rust, Go, C#, C++)
- •Interest in Rust and motivation to become an expert in it
- •Solid fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and asynchronous processing
- •Comfort working in domains where precision matters, such as financial systems, double-entry ledgers, reconciliation, or similarly correctness-critical software
- •A pragmatic, autonomous, ownership-driven mindset
- •Strong critical thinking, including in how you use AI tools
- •Interest in crypto, stablecoins, and the future of payments
What You'll Do
- •Design, build, and operate backend services written in Rust that process high volumes of financial transactions with strong guarantees around correctness, idempotency, and auditability
- •Own features end to end, from shaping the product spec through technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring
- •Integrate with external partners such as banks, payment processors, blockchains, and identity and compliance vendors, and build the abstractions that make those integrations reliable
- •Improve engineering quality across observability, incident response, security practices, and API design
- •Collaborate closely with product, compliance, and other engineering teams across MoonPay’s global network
- •Set technical direction for your area, mentor other engineers, and drive architectural decisions that span multiple teams
Nice to Have
- •Professional or hobby experience writing Rust (open-source contributions count)
- •Experience in fiat payments, banking integrations, card networks, or PSPs
- •Familiarity with KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions screening, or regulated financial products
- •Background in custody, key management (MPC/HSM), or institutional-grade security
- •Smart contract development in Solidity (EVM) or Rust (Solana), and experience with on-chain indexing or node infrastructure
- •Experience working in regulated, multi-jurisdiction environments
