Requirements
- •JD (or equivalent) and active bar membership in at least one jurisdiction
- •6+ years of legal experience including in-house experience at crypto, DeFi, fintech, or regulated financial services company
- •Deep understanding of DeFi including DEXs, AMMs, smart order routing, non-custodial wallets, MPC key management, and smart contracts
- •Solid grounding in US regulatory frameworks relevant to DeFi products including FinCEN, SEC, CFTC, NYDFS
- •Experience providing product lifecycle legal advice directly to engineering and product teams
- •Excellent communication skills to deliver practical legal advice and synthesize complex regulatory constructs
- •Comfortable with legal ambiguity, risk-adjusted thinking, and fast-paced environments
What You'll Do
- •Serve as a primary legal partner for MoonPay's DeFi product teams, providing full product lifecycle counselling from ideation through development, launch, and iteration
- •Advise on the legal and regulatory characterisation of DEX routing, smart order routing, and aggregation features across multiple chains and jurisdictions
- •Provide legal coverage for MoonPay's non-custodial wallet products, including MPC key management architecture, chain abstraction, self-custody user flows, and associated consumer protection obligations
- •Advise on AI agent and autonomous payment integrations, including legal treatment of agentic transaction flows and user authorisation frameworks
- •Provide product legal support for the launch of digital asset services by regulated entities
- •Navigate the interface between MoonPay's licensed regulated entities and non-custodial and decentralized product features
- •Support business lines with products and services regulated by various federal regulatory bodies
- •Monitor and assess regulatory developments across key jurisdictions and translate these into actionable product guidance
- •Partner with Regulatory Affairs and contribute to regulatory strategy on emerging product areas
- •Advise on regulatory characterisation of new products and licensing requirements
- •Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements supporting product development
- •Advise on and draft terms of service, user disclosures, and consumer protection documentation for DeFi-facing product features
- •Develop scalable legal review frameworks and playbooks for product and compliance teams
- •Work cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Regulatory Affairs, and Engineering to build internal knowledge and process infrastructure
Nice to Have
- •Experience advising on MPC, threshold signature schemes, or other non-custodial key management architectures
- •Familiarity with AI agent architectures and legal frameworks for autonomous financial transactions
- •Experience with on-chain protocol governance, smart contract audit processes, or open-source software licensing in crypto context
- •Familiarity with crypto asset custody regulation and card program legal frameworks
- •Exposure to prediction markets, on-chain derivatives, or structured DeFi products
- •Experience supporting launch of novel regulated financial services including licensing strategy and product scoping
- •Experience drafting or advising on protocol integration agreements, liquidity provider arrangements, or similar DeFi commercial documentation
