    Requirements

    • 3+ years managing a team of professional software engineers with full performance cycle experience
    • Strong individual contributor background (IC4-equivalent) with ability to provide technical guidance and write high quality code
    • Proven experience leading teams building end-user product features, ideally developer tools, agent/AI products, CLIs, or technical product surfaces
    • Experience partnering with Product and Design to take features from idea to shipped and incorporate customer feedback
    • Customer-facing experience including discovery calls and design partnerships
    • Experience shipping products consumed by or built for AI agents (MCP servers, agent SDKs, agentic dev tooling, agent-friendly CLIs)
    • Hands-on experience using and reasoning about coding agents with strong opinions on human-agent workflows
    • Async-first communication skills and experience in globally distributed remote teams

    What You'll Do

    • Lead a small team of strong individual contributors as a player-coach, spending up to 50% of time contributing as an individual contributor
    • Provide hands-on technical guidance as well as people, operational, and roadmap work
    • Build relationships with direct reports through 1:1s, understand strengths, goals, and projects, and set cadence for team meetings, planning, and retrospectives
    • Get hands-on with team products and form a point of view on product and technical bets
    • Meet cross-functional partners and translate customer feedback into product roadmap
    • Own the team's roadmap and weekly execution, scope and sequence work, set expectations, and unblock the team
    • Ship meaningful work and use outcomes to refine planning and prioritization
    • Give direct feedback on performance and career growth, help reports articulate goals
    • Be accountable for operational, people, and roadmap aspects, and be a strong technical voice on architecture, quality, and product trade-offs
    • Establish team culture and practices for effectiveness
    • Be known company-wide for understanding customer and agent ecosystem needs and Sourcegraph investment areas
    • Manage performance proactively, cultivate top performers, address underperformance, and raise hiring standards
    • Collaborate with leadership to develop ambitious goals and technical execution strategy

    Nice to Have

    • Fluency with Go, TypeScript/React, SvelteKit, GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, Docker/Kubernetes, and multi-service environments
    • Experience with developer tools, code intelligence, code search, or large-scale code transformation/refactoring products
    • Experience with monitoring, alerting, or 'signals over code' products such as security scanners, lint platforms, code-quality tools
    • Experience designing and shipping CLIs pleasant for both humans and agents
