Requirements
- •High energy and commitment to Wikimedia Foundation's free knowledge mission
- •Interest in free culture issues, digital rights, open source software, Creative Commons licensing
- •Ability to excel in a fast-paced, multitasking environment with fast turn-arounds
- •Intellectual curiosity and flexibility to tackle difficult and ambiguous problems creatively
- •Strong research background preferred
- •Experience or desire to work with large online user communities
- •Ability to flourish in a transparent and collaborative environment with diverse teams
- •Excellent writing skills adaptable to communicate complex legal concepts
- •Completed coursework in internet law, freedom of expression, intellectual property, contract drafting, international law, privacy, data security, and/or licensing preferred
What You'll Do
- •Research various legal questions
- •Draft licensing agreements
- •Develop internal and external policies
- •Spearhead individualized legal projects under supervision
- •Attend and participate in internal and external meetings
- •Collaborate on projects with supervising attorney
- •Receive feedback and support
- •Learn practical dimensions of practicing law in-house at a web-based company
Nice to Have
- •Experience with wikis or Wikimedia projects
- •Multilingual skills
- •Experience and/or coursework in drafting agreements and/or policies
- •Being a Wikimedian (sharing username in cover letter)
